Making It Unique: When Beetle Owners Amp Up Their Ride

It’s not odd for vehicle owners to put their own touch on their cars and make it their own, but when it comes to having your very own VW Bug – sprucing up your whip goes to a whole ‘nother level!

We’ve seen Beetle drivers spice up their car big time – and we aren’t just talking new rims or tinted windows. Maybe it’s the already unique look of the Beetle that inspires owners to do the unthinkable and make their vehicle truly one-of-a-kind. Whatever the reason may be for this trend, we aren’t complaining. In fact, we are more than impressed!

Eyelashes, lips and a hot pink paint job! This personified Bug is as cute as can be! And honestly, what other car can pull off bright paint jobs like lavender, hot pink, pale pink and yellow?


One word: Punny. We love that this owner isn’t kidding when they tell others they drive a Ladybug. Can you imagine the confusion?


And when you want to combine the unique shape of a Beetle with the height of a truck, you get the best of both worlds.

What’s cozier than wrapping yourself up in a colorful quilt? Driving one.


Larger than life Lobsters. Shamu shaped Bugs. When it comes to branding, these vehicles take the cake.


VW owners are perhaps some of the most creative individuals out there and are a breed all their own. The Volkswagen Beetle is a reflection of their owners personality and we think it’s pretty awesome at what some are capable of becoming!

The VW Ad That Changed Everything: Think Small

Arguably the most important thing to ever happen to advertising, the Volkswagen “Think Small” ad debuted in 1959. It brought a not-too-pretty, small, cheap car into the spotlight among the American auto industry. In a world where bigger is typically perceived as better, Volkswagen chose to use a different perspective when showcasing their Beetle model.

Ironically enough, this approach captures your attention, doesn’t it? Why? Because you don’t expect the assertive and confident statement before your eyes. This is an  advertisement that hardly feels like it is trying hard to “sell” you. You read the ad just to figure out why in the world thinking small could possibly be a good thing.

With brutally honest statements that make consumers believe VW is a brand they can trust, Volkswagen takes advertising to a whole new level with this campaign.

7 Car Organization Tricks

It’s surprisingly easy to let your car become a complete mess. French fries stuck between seats, loose change and receipts sprinkled across the floor, the glove box stuffed with a million different papers—it happens to the best of us. Here are some tips to keep the mess at bay in your car.


1.      Trash Bag Holder

Use an empty canister or tissue box to keep a bunch of plastic bags to use as trash bags. That way you always have a trash bag on hand when you need it.


2.      Cereal Keeper Trash Can

For those of you looking for a greener option to keep your car tidy, keep a cereal keeper near your center console and put trash in there. That way, you don’t have to use plastic bags—just empty the keeper whenever you stop for gas.


3.      Dryer Sheets under the Seats

To keep your car smelling fresh and clean, stick a few dryer sheets under the seats. It’s cheaper than buying an air freshener—and takes up less room too.


4.      Loose Change in an Empty Gum Container

Keep all of your loose change in an empty gum container to avoid confusion at toll booths. It can fit in a cup holder for easy access, or in your center console or glove box if you don’t need to use it that often.


5.      File Organizer in Glove Box

To your glove box clutter-free, use a file organizer with tabs to separate registration, insurance, and service receipts—it’ll be much easier to find what you’re looking for if your glove box is neatly organized. It’ll probably create more free space, too.


6.      Visor Organizer

You can pick up a visor organizer just about anywhere nowadays, and they’re wonderful for keeping the things you use most nearby. They can hold your phone, sunglasses, CDs, pen and paper, chargers—everything you could possibly need, really.


7.      Shoe Organizer on Back of Seat

Hang a shoe organizer over the back of the driver or passenger seat to keep important things handy, like hand sanitizer, sun screen, tissues, and water bottles. They’re also good for storing things to keep your children occupied, like books or toys, and keeping them very easily within their reach.

Solar Roadways?

As of June 10, the Solar Roadways Indiegogo campaign has raised $2,024,410. They were only asking for $1,000,000 but with 11 days left of the campaign, have raised 202% of that goal. To what do they owe their immense success? A YouTube video made by major fan of the project, Scott Brusaw.


The video in question, titled “Solar Freakin’ Roadways,” currently has 15,882,559 views. It was made halfway through the campaign by Brusaw, simply because he passionately believes in the cause. It explains the idea of Solar Roadways and emphasizes all of the benefits implementing them would bring about.

The premise of Solar Roadways is, as you might’ve guessed, to turn America’s roads into LED-lit solar panels, absorbing energy while being driven upon. If put into effect, the project could potentially create three times the amount of energy America currently uses. The panels even have the ability to melt snow and change what’s displayed on them. That means that no one would ever have to shovel or plow snow again, and that roads could adapt instantly to whatever was needed of them—closing a lane, adding a bike lane, changing a regular parking space to a handicapped one, or even indicating that an animal was crossing up ahead. Of course, this is mostly wishful thinking. The creators have thus far only made a couple of prototypes, and getting everyone to agree to install these solar-paneled roads everywhere would take a miracle—and certainly more than $2 million.



The way Brusaw explains it in his video, the system sounds flawless. He makes it sound like people would be crazy not to jump on board immediately. In all likelihood, there are flaws in the plan, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction. We should’ve known that, with so many electric cars now on the market (like the VW E-Golf, coming to dealerships later this year), something like this wouldn’t be too far behind—hopefully it’s not too far away from becoming a reality in the future as well.

Community Comes Together to Dedicate Patient Rooms at Florida Hospital for Children; Including one to the David Maus Foundation


ORLANDO, Fla., April 17, 2013 – Florida Hospital for Children recently dedicated 19 pediatric patient rooms on the 6th and 7th floors of the hospital thanks to the generosity of donors in the Central Florida community. An event was held to celebrate the individuals that have contributed to the care of children in our community and unveil the new signage located in front of each room.

“This was a record number of rooms to be dedicated to the hospital at one time,” said Marla Silliman, administrator of Florida Hospital for Children. “We are so thankful to our donors because without them we would not be where we are today. It is the generosity of our community that allows us to be a world-class center for pediatric care.”

The dedication ceremony for the 19 general pediatric rooms was held in 7th floor family area of Florida Hospital for Children. The small reception recognized each individual family and concluded with the donors unveiling their room signage on the two nature themed patient floors. Each pediatric room is private and family centered with a dedicated medical staff located close by.

At the 2013 Geneva Auto Show, Volkswagen showed off a concept vehicle, the first Commercial concept to be imagined by the German automotive company. It is called the e-Co-Motion and it is designed to be a zero-emission delivery van for transporting goods around a city. It is exclusively electric-powered that boasts a range of up to 124 miles.

Powered by a compact drive unit with a continuous power output of 50 kW (68 hp) and maximum power of 115 hp, the vehicle boasts maximum torque of 270 Nm, which Volkswagen says provides responsive acceleration even when the van is packed with a heavy load. While designed for ferrying goods around town, the vehicle’s electronics don’t limit its top speed until it hits 75 mph, allowing it to take city motorways and short intercity routes when required.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles hasn’t made any commitments on whether the e-Co-Motion will make the jump from concept to production vehicle, but one of the goals of the project was to develop a uniform platform that could be implemented as the basis for as future vehicles.

At the 2013 Geneva International Motor Show Volkswagen previewed the new 2014 GTI, the hatchback that has received high reviews for speed and sportiness from drivers of all ages. The new GTI will offer a new 220-horsepower, turbocharged four-cylinder engine with either a six-speed manual or six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Volkswagen is also offering something new on the GTI model – a factory performance pack which boosts output to 230 hp and adds bigger brakes and a torque-sensing limited-slip differential. It will be still have the sporty red-painted brake calipers, twin tailpipes, lowered sport suspension and other unique cosmetic designs.

The new GTI will go on sale in Germany this May but will not be seen in U.S. showrooms until next year. The price point will be different as well, offering U.S. consumers lowering pricing with many of luxury items as options to add on if desired.

Volkswagen has revealed stunning photos of the production version vehicle known as the XL1, a capsule-shaped vehicle that will be considered “green”. VW declares the XL1 will travel 261 mpg on a gallon of diesel fuel.

Volkswagen isn’t doing this the expected environmental way – they are pushing the limits with  a car that’s power comes from a two-cylinder, 0.8-liter diesel — essentially half of VW’s standard 1.6-liter four-cylinder diesel plant — mounted in the rear of the XL1, linked to a 7-speed transmission, a 5.5 kWh lithium-ion battery and electric motor. The two-seat body of the XL1 has a 0.189 coefficient of drag (a Toyota Prius has a 0.25 Cd) and it weighs just 1,752 lbs., about half of a typical American midsize sedan. This combination allows the XL1 to travel 31 miles on electricity alone.

The body of the XL1 will be made from carbon fiber, although using a process VW claims will be far cheaper than those applied by supercar builders such as Ferrari and Lamborghini. The XL1 will be assembled by hand in a special section of VW’s Osnabrueck factory in Germany.

It exists only due to the will of VW Chairman Ferdinand Piech — grandson of Ferdinand Porsche, the designer of the original Beetle — who has pushed VW to refine the idea of the XL1 for more than a decade. For all that VW revealed today, it didn’t announce prices or when it will be available for drivers.

Volkswagen has released its newest commercial to hit the airwaves, with the spotlight on the all new Jetta’s safety. Following the release of 2013 Top Safety Picks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Volkswagen Jetta received the a Top Safety Pick  for its ratings in frontal crash, side impact and rollover, and seat/head restraints.

Volkswagen will introduce its safety claim in this new commercial featuring a new born baby and his first experience in a Jetta. You can see the video here.

The Jetta sedan offers four different engines, a 115-hp 2.0-liter gas four-cylinder, a 2.5-liter gas five-cylinder generating 170 horsepower, a 140-hp 2.0L TDI clean-diesel four-cylinder for those looking for maximum fuel economy, and a 200-hp 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder in the GLI.

Buyers that go with either gas engine can choose between a five-speed (six-speed in wagon) manual transmission or six-speed Tiptronic automatic; while TDI and GLI buyers select from either a six-speed manual transmission, or a six-speed DSG auto with Tiptronic.

All Jetta’s are standard with safety features such as six air bags, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, electronic stability program, tire pressure monitoring, brake assist, seatbelt pretensioners, traction control and head restraints at all seating positions.

  just leaked photos they have obtained of the new 2014 Volkswagen GTI (MkVII). The spy shots look very similar to the concept shown last year at the Paris Auto Show, the pictures the website found may be “fakes” or renderings.

What the pictures do show is that the GTI will maintain its current style but with a crisper exterior and revised interior to give it a new appeal but not be totally different. No details accompanied the photo leak, but predicts the 2014 VW GTI to use a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at about 222 horsepower–a significant rise from the current 200-horsepower model.
